Our Abdominoplasty Surgery Experience

Abdominoplasty: What is It?

The skin of the abdomen becomes stretched and loses due to significant loss of weight ( most commonly it is caused due to childbirth). The skin loses its elasticity in those situations and can’t be cured by simply doing exercises and dieting. In that situation, you need to do a surgery which is called Abdominoplasty. This is done to remove the excess skin which overhangs the belly and pubic area. This procedure is also commonly known as tummy tuck in the UK.

My Abdominoplasty Surgery Experience

Pre Surgery Experience

I am going to share my experience with Mr Makarand Tare, who is known for abdominoplasty in Essex. I had a pre-surgical counselling session in which I was told about the procedure, pain, medications, and dos & don’ts after surgery. I was asked if I am not on a blood-thinning medication. (e.g. warfarin). I was told to avoid the substance that contains nicotine prior to six to seven weeks.

All About Surgery

The whole surgical process went on for three hours straight. The doctor has removed almost 4 kilograms of fat & skin. My abdominal muscles were pulled back together which were separated earlier.

Post Surgery Experience

How Painful is Abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty comes with some serious pain. You will experience pain for some days after the surgery. After abdominoplasty, it is normal to experience some pain. This doesn’t usually last long and can be relieved with over-the-counter medications. It is important to follow the doctor’s instructions while taking these medications, though. A person may also experience bruising and swelling after the surgery, but these are also common side effects and will go away in a few days.

My Own Experience: My pain was bearable and it was there for up to 10 days. I began to return to my daily activities in just a few days. However, it may vary from person to person. In my experience, my first-week post-surgery was the hardest. In the second & third weeks, I began to recover and walk. In two months, I was feeling normal and started feeling the aesthetic result of the abdominoplasty.

Will the Scars be Noticeable?

To Be Honest, the scar will remain. However, the noticeability of post-tummy tuck surgery totally depends on the procedure.  The surgeon generally will make incisions around the navel and cut vertically to remove some or all of the skin from the abdomen. The incision along the navel is usually closed by dissolving stitches, but other surgeons may use a piece of tape or suture material, like polyglactin, which dissolves on its own. If an abdominal muscle was cut during surgery, it will need to be repaired manually, often with stitches. The scars are usually less noticeable if they are in an area that is darker than your natural skin color because they don’t show up as vividly in contrast to your skin tone.

In the long run, you will forget about the scars and lead a happy and normal life with confidence.
